Malaysia-bound trawler sinks in Kutubdia; Over 100 missing

Cox’s Bazar : Over 100 people went missing as a Malaysia-bound trawler capsized in Kutubdia Channel at Khodaibari on Thursday morning.

Coastguard and police, so far, have rescued 32 passengers from the spot while 10 others including two human trafickers from Matarbari area in Moheshkhali upazila.

Condition of six was stated to be critical.

Kutubdia thana OC angsai Thoai said some 40 passengers were rescued till 1:30pm. of them six have been admitted to the upazila health complex in a critical condition.

The fortune-seekers said a trawlers with about 150 passengers on board sailed for Malaysia from Majherghat area on Wednesday night. The mechanised boat capsized in the South of Kutubdia at about 10am Thursday, they added.

Meanwhile,  Navy ship ‘Tanvir’ reached the spot from Chittagong to join the rescue operation, official sources said.
