Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon all to unite against violence by blockade supporters in the spirit of the Liberation War.
"Everyone needs to raise their voice against the killing of people, bombing, arson and such violence. The perpetrators need to be nabbed wherever and whenever found," she told a meeting with officials of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry on Sunday.
Arsons and bombings have been reported regularly for the last 13 days and more than 20 people have died in violence during the transport blockade.
The United Nations have also expressed concerns over the violence and called on all political parties to shun it.
"We cannot just sit back and watch the country being ruined. Those who truly believe in our independence and the spirit of Liberation War should unite and resist these (violence)," Hasina told the officials.
She said that the Awami League-led government is able to 'fight against all the odds'.
"There are efforts to take the country backwards, when we are working for developing it."
