Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) today demanded formation of a new wage board to maintain equilibrium between the proposed pay scale for government officials and employees and the salary structure of journalists and employees.
The BFUJ made the demand at an executive committee meeting at Jatiya Press Club with its president Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul in the chair.
BFUJ Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan and Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal placed their reports respectively.
Presidents and general secretaries of the journalists' community from Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Jessore, Bogra, Dinajpur and Narayanganj delivered speeches in the meeting. They highlighted real picture of the media.
The BFUJ expressed concern over non-implementation of the 8th Wage Board recommendations.
The leaders demanded cancelation of accreditation cards of editors and owners of those newspapers and news agencies who violate rules and regulations.
They also demanded stopping publication of supplements in those newspapers as well as reducing government facilities.
The meeting also decided to hold annual general meeting or representatives' meeting in Dhaka on February 28 next.
The BFUJ requested its associate organizations to submit their lists of representatives by January 31.
