Natore: A dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by district BNP, is underway on Tuesday protesting the killing of two of their activists during Monday's clash.
The strike began around 6am and it will end at 6pm.
Additional police have been deployed in the district.
On Monday, district general secretary Aminul Haque announced the hartal.
Two people were shot dead and 15 others were injured during a clash between ruling Awami League and BNP at Tebbaria area in Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rakib and Raihan Hossain Rana, two activists of pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Witnesses said, the ruling party men opened fire on the JCD activists when they brought out a procession in the area around 10:30 am as part of BNP alliance’s countrywide programmes to mark its 'Democracy Killing Day', leaving 17 activists injured.
Officer-in-charge Faridul Islam of Sadar Police Station said, among the injured Rakib and Rana died at Sadar Hospital.
