Jamaat-e-Islami has called dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal for Wednesday and Thursday in protest against the death penalty for its leader ATM Azharul Islam for committing crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
Jamaat acting ameer Moqbul Ahmad made the announcement through a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
The statement said the shutdown will begin at 6am and continue till 5:30pm on those days.
"The government filed the conspiratory case against ATM Azharul Islam on false and imaginary allegation," it said.
The International Crime Tribunal-1 on Tuesday awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general ATM Azharul Islam for his alleged crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
