Govt to protect RCC from river erosion: Anisul

RAJSHAHI, Dec 29: Water Resource Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, MP, has categorically said the present government is committed to protect Rajshahi Cadet College (RCC) from the ongoing dangerous erosion of the mighty Padma.
He also said the protection work will start as soon as possible as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very positive about it.
The minister, however, said the Taka 51.79-crore project titled "Protection of the RCC and adjacent important establishment from the erosion of the Padma River" will be implemented in phases. The minister said this while talking to the journalists on the occasion of his visit to the erosion point just close to the RCC campus today (Monday).
Two major installations like RCC and Bangladesh Police Academy is facing the erosion threat here.
"We are pledged bound to ensure transparency and accountability in all implementation works of the ministry," he added. In this context, he said necessary steps will taken so that the contractors concerned are bound to finish the projects in time.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, accompanied the minister on the occasion.
Minister Anisul Islam said the government will implement the huge Ganges Barrage Project with an estimated cost of around Taka 32,000 crore. World Bank, Japan and China have become interested to invest in the project.
In this regard, there will be no necessity of land acquisition. On successful implementation of the project there will be full of surface water in the upstream.    ?BSS
