
The Dhaka University (DU) National Model United Nations Assosiation organised the four-day long conference, said a press release.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme as chief guest while UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Argentina Matavel Piccin was present as guest of honour. Cultural Affairs Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Chhen Chung, DU Prof Delwar Hossain of the international relations department and Officer-in charge of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Md Moniruzzaman were present as special guests at the opening ceremony of the conference.
Prof Arefin Siddique said Bangladesh has been playing a leading role in UN peace keeping missions worldwide. Thus, the country is contributing significantly to world peace and human rights. He urged the students of new generation to be an active partner of sustainable development initiatives of the world by representing their respective educational institutions and also the country. He also laid emphasis on the proper understanding of the UN systems so that they would be able to accomplish their responsibilities more effectively.
