JAMALPUR, Dec 19: Machine Readable Passport (MRP) distribution programme was inaugurated here on Friday.
State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam MP inaugurated the programme at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
On the first day, passports were formally distributed among seven passport-holders by the state minister.
The programme was organised by Jamalpur district administration in association with regional passport office of Jamalpur. It was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Jamalpur Shahabuddin Khan. State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam addressed the programme as chief guest. He termed the issuance of MRP from Jamalpur as part of digitisation. He also urged the district administration and police to keep passport office in Jamalpur free from hazards created by agents.
MP of Jamalpur-2 Constituency Faridul Hoque Khan Dulal, Superintendent of Police Nazrul Islam, and district Awami League General Secretary Faruq Ahmed Chowdhury addressed the programme, among others.
The speakers said now people of the district will get passports without going to Mymensingh and Dhaka.
It was informed that people would be able to collect passport at a cost of Tk 6,000 in 9 days on emergency basis while at a cost of Tk 3,000 in 21 days in general.
