Chittagong: An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League was shot dead during a factional clash of the student wing of ruling Awami League at Chittagong University (CU) on Sunday.
The dead was identified as--Taposh Pal, a second year student of the Sanskrit Department of CU.
Several people were also injured, including two by bullets, when the clash ensued in front of the Shah Amanat Hall around noon following an altercation over establishing supremacy.
Bullet-hit two were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where Taposh died later.
CU sources said, both the feuding groups clashed with arms.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus to control the situation.
Meanwhile, Hathazari thana police recovered huge arms and ammunition from Shah Jalal Hall in the afternoon and detained a BCL activist.
The law enforcers seized two pistols, six bullets, 20 iron rods and books authored by Moulana Moududi from the Hall.
Police detained BCL man Rubel Deyfrom a locked room. Rubel has been expelled from the CU for two times for his involvement in criminal activities.
Meanwhile, a faction of BCL, in a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club this evening, alleged that Tapas was killed by the students loyal to the Vice chancellor.
They demanded resignation of the VC and Proctor.
