French envoy presents credentials to President

Ambassador designate of France to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert presented her credentials to President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban Wednesday.

Welcoming the ambassador, the President expressed his satisfaction at the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Abdul Hamid appreciated the French support for Bangladesh's development since independence and recalled the support of the French people, especially the intellectuals, during the Liberation War in 1971.

The President said Bangladesh will continue to promote international peace through its constructive role in various international forums and in particular through its participation in the UN peacekeeper operations.

He said France always patronizes arts and culture and appreciated the role of Alliance Francaise in Dhaka and Chittagong in promoting cultural exchange.

Sophie Aubert said that she would work for promoting cooperation between the two countries.

Concerned secretaries to the President were present.

Earlier, on her arrival at Bangabhaban, the ambassador was given a guard of honor by a contingent of the President's Guard Regiment.
