A woman has been found alive in the morgue of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) three hours after being declared dead yesterday.
Nur Alam Babu, official of DMCH morgue, told The Daily Observer on Tuesday that doctors told them that an unknown woman, 45, died after respiratory and multiple organ failures. The doctors also issued a death certificate and a case was filed about her death at around 2:00pm. She was under treatment at Ward-802 unit 7 at the new building of DMCH. Doctors also ordered the morgue authority to receive the body for autopsy.
But when staff came to receive the body from the morgue, they found her still breathing.
The DMCH doctors pronounced her dead after her pulse stopped, but morgue staff found her trying to move her legs and hands.
Brig Gen Mostafizur Rahman, Director of DMCH, told journalists that an unknown woman lay on the street in front of the Emergency Department of the DMCH. He asked the duty doctor to arrange for her treatment.  He also assured that the accused doctor will be punished.
