Govt orders to shut down Channel 16

Channel 16, a private satellite television channel, has been ordered to close down its transmission by the government after the expiry of its test transmission period.

The Ministry of Information ordered to stop the broadcasting of Channel 16 from Tuesday afternoon. The ministry also sent the copies of the order to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and departments concerned on Tuesday.

Signed by Senior Assistant Secretary M Akhtaruzzaman and issued from the TV-2 Section of the Ministry of Information, it was stated in the order that the period of test transmission by Channel 16 of Insight Telecast Company Limited expired on November 30, 2013 and it was not renewed  further.

The Ministry of Information also asked all concerned including cable operators, online and other media not to broadcast the transmission of Channel 16.
