CHITTAGONG, Nov 27: Police on Thursday recovered huge quantity of locally made weapons and gunpowder from two residential halls of Chittagong College.
According to Chawk Bazar Police source, the police recovered 16 Ram Da, 6 cocktails, 8 petrol bombs, 35 chalk bombs, 5 kg stone and 3 kg gunpowder from Suhrawardy Hall and Shere Bangla Hall by a 2-hour raid that started 12pm.
One employee of the Suhrawardy Hall was also arrested in this connection. The Chittagong College, one of the renowned educational institutes of the port city, has long been dominated by the Islami Chhatra Shibir activists.
They do not allow the activists of any other student organisations to enter into the College premises.
Two residential Halls are also occupied by the Shibir activists.
On Wednesday, Education Minister Nurul islam Nahid visited the college to attend a seminar organised by the college teachers.
The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra league had tried to hand over a memorandum to the visiting Education Minister.
But the Shibir activists obstructed the BCL activists to enter into the college premises. So, the BCL activists waited outside the college premises.
The police then raided the residential halls of the college and recovered those lethal weapons and chemicals used for manufacturing bombs and other explosives.
