Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday expressed optimism that Bangladesh would exceed US$2 billion export volume of RMG products to Australia in next four years.

"Bangladesh RMG has huge demand in Australia and we are opening a Bangladeshi market here in the country to boost the export. I hoped the export volume would be exceeded US$2 billion in next four years," he added.

The minister was exchanging views with the local businessmen and Bangladeshi community in Australia organised by the Bangladesh High Commission.

Tofail said the government is working to increase the country's total export volume to US$ 50 billion by 2021, and exporters-importers have an immense responsibility to this end.

Citing the exiting relation among the owners and labourers as excellent, the commerce minister alleged that a vested quarter is trying to make the RMG sector unstable.

He urged the owners and labourers to be united to off-set the plot.

BGMEA director Syed Sadek Ahmed, and local businessmen and community leaders also spoke on the occasion with Bangladesh High Commissioner Kazi Imtiaz Hossain in the chair.
