Prof Abdur Rob Khan of North South University, who deals with security issues, on Wednesday observed that although the situation had changed after formation of the new government, there should be a close watch on militant groups as their number is increasing in the region.
"We should not ignore them. If we do we will have to face troubles in future as it would be tough to control militant activities," Prof Abdur Rob Khan told The Daily Observer.
"The number of militant groups is increasing day by day in this area. The law enforcers should keep their eyes open," he said, adding that social cohesions can minimise the threat of terrorism significantly.
In the GTI, among the South Asian countries, Pakistan ranked 3rd, India 6th, Nepal 24th and Sri Lanka is in 36th position.
Prof Rob observed that Bangladesh is more prone to militant activities than other South Asian countries.
