The state-owned Petrobangla and its sister concerns have become burdened with current charges at top positions.
The officials who are now on current charges are blamed for their alleged wrongdoings and other malpractices, according to sources concerned.
An official of Petrobamgla held former Pertrobangla Chairman Dr Hossain Mansur responsible for the situation.
Those who are on current charges are the incumbent Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration & Production Company Limited (BAPEX) Managing Director Mahbub Sarwar, Director of Poschimanchal Gas Company Rezaul Islam Khan, Director of Sundarban Gas Company Khalekuzzaman Ratan, Managing Director of Tatas Gas Company Nowshad Islam, and Shahinoor Islam has got the charge of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL).
The government had made a list to promote some officials to the posts in January.
The selection committee did not consider Nowshad Islam and Khalekuzzaman because it found that they are not competent for the posts. But, sources claimed, Dr Mansur selected them depriving qualified officers.
As per the audit of 2014, the Titas Gas Company failed to explain the anomalies involving Tk 1,638 crore. Sources claimed that Nowshad Islam misappropriated the money. Allegations including providing illegal gas connections have also been raised against Nowshad Islam.
Aiub Khan has become the Managing Director of Karnaphuli Gas Transmission Company only in 19 years of his job which is rare in Petrobangla.
It is alleged that Rezaul Islam Khan, acting MD of the Poschimanchal Gas Company, is close to Hossain Mansur.
Shahinoor Alom took over as the acting MD of RPGCL in November. He has been on top of the list of selected persons but the Petrobangla deprived him. The RPGCL is considered a less important organisation than other companies under Petrobangla. To maintain his grip on the officials, the former Petrobangla Chairman allegedly picked up less qualified people, alleged a selection committee member. Thus, Mansur always deprived the qualified and senior persons, he said.
