FENI: In presence of Roads and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader, Jubo League activists severely beaten up Haji Rahim Ullah, an Independent MP from Feni-3 constituency. The incident happened at about 7.30pm at Feni Circuit House.

The Jubo League activists also threatened to kill him, said Haji Rahim Ullah. After the incident, he left the place under police escort. In sequel to the incident, angry supporters of the MP vandalised several motor cars blockading roads at Dakbunglow area on the Feni-Sonagazi highway and Motiganj area.

Haji Rahim Ullah MP of Feni-3 constituency and a standing committee member on the Ministry of Industries, told over mobile phone that he attended a regular monthly meeting at Dagonbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex under his constituency on Saturday morning. During the meeting, a dozen of cocktails were blasted outside. After the meeting, he was going to a scheduled programme at Rajapur union under the upazila. At that time, he learned that some miscreants set fire to the arch erected in courtesy of him. Though he had another programme at a nearby union, Dagonbhuiyan upazila chairman and District Jubo League convener Didarul Kabir Ratan waylaid him to go there.

Meanwhile, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader was staying at Feni Circuit House after a party conference in Noakhali. At that time, Rahim Ullah went there to apprise minister about the Dagonbhuiyan incident. The minister was offering Magreb prayer at a room of the first floor at that time. Suddenly, some 40 to 50 Jubo League activists, led by district Jubo League convener Shushen Chandra Sheel, joint convener Swapan Miaji, and Jubo League leader Apon, being equipped with arms, manhandled the MP and threatened to kill him.

Quoting the Jubo League leaders, Rahim Ullah also said ,"They threatened to kill and burn me alive like former Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekram if I don't follow the commands of Nizamuddin Hazari MP of Feni-2 constituency."

Hearing the melee, Obaidul Kader called in additional police super Saiful Huq and ASP Shamsul Alam to help the MP to leave the place.
