A daughter-in-law of a former Awami League MP, Khan Tipu Sultan, died mysteriously at her in-law's Dhanmondi residence on Thursday.
Shamaruf Majhabin Kona, 24, wife of Humayun Sultan, son of former Jessore MP Khan Tipu Sultan, committed suicide, claimed her husband.
Kona was a student of Holy Family Medical College in Dhaka. Doctors declared her dead when she was taken to the Central Hospital from their Dhanmondi residence on Thursday, Khan Sultan told reporters.
Rejaul Islam Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Dhanmondi said the couple had a brawl over telephone on Wednesday. They left the house on Thursday morning. After coming back, Kona told their domestic help that she had some work to do in her room and locked the door. She did not respond when she was called for lunch, added Rejaul.
Others in the house broke into her room and found her hanging from a bathroom grill with a scarf round her neck, Islam added.
Kona's mother, Jesmin Ara, is a doctor at the Holy Family Medical College, while her father, Nurul Islam, is a PWD engineer.
Bosirul Haq, second officer of Dhanmondi police station, told The Daily Observer police primarily suspects it as a suicide incident.
