The High Court on Tuesday issued a contempt rule against some senior officials of the government including the Secretary of Housing and Public Works Ministry, Chief Engineer of Public Works and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Cox's Bazar district for disobeying of its order.
The HC asked the officials to answer in two weeks as to why actions against them will not be taken for flouting its previous order against setting up a public structure occupying a private property.
Md. Golam Rabbani, the Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Md. Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, the Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, Md. Taslim Uddin Jomadder, the Executive Engineer, Cox's Bazar PWD Division, Md. Ruhul Amin, the Deputy Commissioner, Cox's Bazar, Zafar Alam, ADC (Revenue) of Cox's Bazar and Md. Masud Hossain, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Ramu of Cox's Bazar will have to answer the rule.
According to the case documents, the officials were involved in setting up a fire station at Ramu occupying lands of some locals including Abdus Sattar, Akther Kamal, Rezaul Karim, AnjumAra Begum, HosneAra Begum, Shamsunnahar and Jonnegar Begum of Ramu.
The land owners moved the HC against the bid. Upon their petition, the HC earlier issued an order for maintaining status quo on the disputed land. But the officials disobeyed the order.
