BAGERHAT: Two suspected robbers, including a ringleader, were shot dead during a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chandpai range of the Sundarbans on Tuesday morning.

The dead were identified as--Enamul Hawlader alias Daroga, 34, the ringleader of 'Daroga Bahini', and his associate Saiful, 28. Both of them hailed from Khulna.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive at Alubariar Khal area in the morning when a gang of robbers were taking preparations for committing robbery, said Major Rumman Mahmud, Deputy Director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing.

Sensing the presence of elite force, the pirates group opened fire, prompting the RAB members to fire back.

"Enamul and Saiful caught in the line of fire and killed on the spot," said an eye witness account of RAB.

Huge arms and ammunition were also recovered from the spot, RAB sources said.
