The Dean election of Dhaka University (DU) will be held on Thursday.

Candidates of pro-Awami League 'Blue Panel' and BNP-Jamaat backed 'White Panel' are contesting the election for the posts of 10 deans for 10 faculties, said a DU release on Tuesday.

Voting will begin at 10am and continue till 2pm at the Dhaka University’s Nawab Nabab Ali Choudhury Senate Bhaban.

DU Treasurer Prof Dr Kamal Uddin will act as the election commissioner.

DU Treasurer Prof Dr. Kamal Uddin told the Daily Observer that around 1,250 teachers of different faculties will cast their ballots in the election.   

Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal of the Blue Panel has already been declared elected for the Faculty of Earth and Environment Science as none from the White Panel submitted nomination paper.

Prof. Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Blue Panel and Ahmed Abdullah Jaman of the White Panel are contesting for the post for the dean of Arts Faculty while Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed of the Blue Panel is vying against Prof Dr. Zahidul Islam of the White Panel for the post of dean of the Faculty of Social Science.

Prof. Md Abdul Aziz of Blue Panel and Prof Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam of White Panel are contesting from the Faculty of Science, Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of Blue Panel and Dr Haripada Bhattacharjee of White Panel are contesting for the dean of Business Faculty.

Prof. Rahmatullah Khan of Blue Pane will vie with Dr. S.M. Hasan Talukder and Prof Taslima Mansur both from the White Panel are contesting for the dean of the Faculty of Law.

Prof. Dr. Md. Imdadul Haque of Blue Panel and Mozammel Haque from the Faculty of Biology, Prof. ABM Faruque of Blue Panel and Dr Md Saiful Islam of White Panel for the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Nesar Hossain of Blue Panel and Sheikh Monir Uddin of White Panel for the Faculty of Art Institution, Prof. Rafiqul Islam of Blue Panel and AM Sarwar Uddin Choudhury will contest for the dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin said each candidate from the Blue panel would succeed in the election as the eligible candidates were selected for the Blue Panel.

Prof. Jahidul Islam from the White Panel hoped that they would win the election
