RANGPUR: Police arrested 254 people, including 30 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, in separate drives in eight districts of Rangpur division from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.

Detective Branch officer Shariful Islam said, Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested as they tried to create sabotage during Jamaat's 48-hour hartal.

Abdul Kader Zilany, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Thana said, the arrested men are the accused of number of cases.

They were sent to jail through court, OC said.
