NATORE: Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as 'neo-Hitler,' BNP Chaiperson Begum Khaleda Zia has said, "People call Sheikh Hasina an autocrat. I'll say that she is not only an autocrat, but also a neo-Hitler. She has been killing people like Hitler."

The BNP chairperson was speaking at a public rally organised by the 20-party alliance at Nawab Siraj-ud-Dowlah Govt College ground in Natore town on Saturday afternoon.

Khaleda Zia alleged that the Sheikh Hasina-led government wants to cling to power through attacks on opposition leaders and activists, and implicating them in false cases. "They've turned the entire country into a prison. None of the leaders and activists of the opposition alliance is out of cases. There is no democracy in the country now."

Referring to the prevailing law and order in the country, she said forced disappearances and murders are going on unabated. People have no security of life. A country can't be run in such a way. It can't be allowed to run the country in such a manner.

The former premier said, "There is no electricity across the country today. The government has hiked the prices of electricity and gas repeatedly with a view to looting public money. It is again trying to hike the price of electricity. But, the people will not accept it in any way."

About the stagnant situation in investment, she said no local or foreign investors are interested to invest in the country. 'If someone wants to invest here, he is pay extortion to Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra Leage. So, no investment is taking place in the country. As a result, poverty situation is aggravating day by day," she said.

Pointing to the educational scenario, Khaleda said the government is destroying the education system of the country. "They have been receiving praise by showing the increased numbers of pass rate. The education sector has been destroyed in such a manner that all students are getting GPA-5 now on an average."

In this regard, she alleged that Sheikh Hasina is creating unemployed youths in every house by doing so. They have been doing this according to a well-designed plan. But, this conspiracy can't be allowed to continue anymore, she asserted.

Criticising the government, for what she said, destroying all the institutions of the country, she said the government has already destroyed the judiciary, Anti-Corruption Commission, health sector and education sector. "They have kept justices under immense pressure by passing the judges' impeachment law in parliament. Justices will lose their posts if they don't deliver the judgements according to the wish of the government," she alleged.

With Natore district BNP president Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, the rally was also addressed by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Mirza Abbas, BNP vice-chairman Selima Rahman, Shemsher Mobin Chowdhury, Chairperson's advisers Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and joing secretary general Barkatullah Bulu, among others.

Among the 20-party alliance leaders, the rally was addressed by Kallyan Party chairman Syed Mohammad Ibrahim Bir Protik, Jamaat-e-Islami's nayebe ameer Prof Mujibur Rahman, Jatiya Party's Andalib Rahman Partha, Jagpa's Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Islami Oikyo Jote chairman Abdul Latif Nezami, and Khelafat Majlish chairman Moulana Ishaque.
