The dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal, called by Sammilito Islami Dal, a coalition of Islamic parties, demanding capital punishment of former minister Abdul Latif Siddique for his disparaging remarks about hajj and Tablig Jamaat, ended peacefully on Sunday.
Hartal supporters brought out brisk processions at different points of the capital in the morning.
Vehicular movement is normal in the capital.
Additional police have been deployed at all the key points of the city.
Maulana Zafrullah Khan, secretary general of the coalition, announced the shutdown programme at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on Wednesday.
Earlier on October 1, the coalition threatened to enforce a daylong countrywide hartal on the day (Oct 26) if the sacked minister was not arrested by October 22 for his disparaging remarks about hajj.
