A member of banned Islamist organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir received bullet wounds in a clash with police at Mohammadpur in the capital on Friday afternoon.

Injured Mohammad Nafis, 38, a resident of Mohammadia Housing Ltd, was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullets in his back and a leg.

Mohammadpur thana SI Razib Mia said the clash ensued in the afternoon when police intercepted a sudden procession brought out by the leaders and activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir at Iqbal Road after the Jum’a prayers.

The processionists pelted brickbats and blasted crackers forcing police to fire gunshots, leaving Nafis injured.

The police official, however,  could not confirm if anyone is arrested in this connection.
