
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday afternoon.
It said Syed Moazzem Ali was appointed as the High Commissioner for the next three years on contractual basis. He will replace Tarique A. Karim.
It may be mentioned that Syed Moazzem Ali joined Pakistan Foreign Service in 1968 after obtaining post-graduation degree in Zoology from Dhaka University. He served as the Bangladesh ambassador to Bhutan, Iran and France. He has the experiences of working at New Delhi mission apart from Washington, Warsaw and Jeddah. Syed Moazzem Ali went on retirement in 2001 after serving as the foreign secretary.
Meanwhile, City Editor (Diplomatic and Political Affairs) of the New Age Shamim Ahmed has been appointed as Press Minister to the Embassy of Bangladesh in the United States.
In a separate circular, the Ministry of Public Administration said he was appointed to the post for two years on contractual basis on condition of abandoning working relations with other organisations.
