BRAC University professor and a political analyst Piash Karim passed away at the Square Hospitals in the capital on Monday morning.
Sources said, Piash Karim was taken to the hospital from his Dhanmondi residence by an ambulance early in the morning following a cardiac arrest.
Later, on-duty doctor at the hospital declared him dead around 5:30am.
Piash Karim's brother Jahir said, the body will be kept at the hospital mortuary till Tuesday. He will be buried after arrival of his relatives from abroad.
The body will be taken to the Central Saheed Minar at 11am on Wednesday and kept there for two hours to pay last tributes by the people of all walks of life.
Later, namaz-e-Janaza for the political analyst will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Johr prayers.
Dr Piash Karim became popular through attending various television talk shows and seminars as a discussant.
Piash Karim was a professor of Department of Economics and Social Science at BRAC University.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi have expressed their deep shock at the death of Piash Karim.
Professor Karim, also known as Manjur Karim, obtained his Ph.D in Sociology from Kansas State University, USA. His specialisations include Political Economy, Political Sociology, Nationalism and Social Theory, according to the university website.
He had extensive teaching experience in the United States and held faculty positions at University of Nebraska at Kearny and Culver- Stocketon College, Missouri for 17 years before joining BRAC University in 2007.
