Expressing her disappointment at the comment of the Posts and telecommunications Minister over Holy Hajj and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said that Abdul Latif Siddiqui will not only be removed from cabinet but also from her party for his remarks.
‘’I'm also disappointed at Latif Siddiqui's comment. He will not only be removed from cabinet but also from Awami League for hurting religious sentiment,’’ said the PM while talking to Awami League leaders at the VVIP Lounge of Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Thursday morning.
The Prime Minister halted at Sylhet Osmani International Airport for an hour on way to Dhaka from London after attending the 69th UN General Assembly in New York.
Latif Siddique, at a reception arranged by expatriates from Tangail living in New York on Sunday evening, reportedly said he is against hajj and Tablig Jamaat.
Latif Siddqui made the remarks at a view exchange meeting with expatriates of Tangail living in New York at a hotel at Jackson Heights in New York on Sunday afternoon.
He said, "I strongly oppose the Hajj and Tablig Jamaat. I also oppose Jamaat-e-Islam. But, I particularly oppose Hajj and Tablig Jamaat."
He said: “Hajj is just waste of manpower... those who perform hajj don’t have any productivity. They deduct from the economy, spends a lot of money abroad.”
