
The government has decided to remove Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui from the cabinet following his comments regarding hajj and Tablig Jamaat that drew widespread criticism.
The Prime Minister took the decision and conveyed to the Cabinet Division on Tuesday, confirmed a source in the Cabinet Division.
But, no notification has yet been issued in this regard till 3:30pm.
A party source said that the decision would not come into effect right now because of the Prime Minister's absence. "The decision will be informed formally on return of the Prime Minister.
Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the decision will be taken on Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui after the PM's return.
Latif Siddqui made the remarks at a view exchang meeting with expatriates of Tangail living in New York at a hotel at Jackson Heights in New York on Sunday afternoon.
He said, "I strongly oppose the Hajj and Tablig Jamaat. I also oppose Jamaat-e-Islam. But, I particularly oppose Hajj and Tablig Jamaat."
