
RAJSHAHI: At least 10 people, including two police constables, were injured when the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed with police in front of Lokonath School in the city on Saturday morning.
Abdus Sobhan, sub-inspector of Boalia Police Station said, a group of Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a procession at Monir Chattar around 8:30am as part of their protest against the Supreme Court verdict that commuted Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee’s death penalty to jail till death.
After parading city thoroughfares, when the procession reached in front of Lokonath School, police obstructed them.
The Jamaat-Shibir men hurled two crude bombs targeting police. Police also fired rubber bullets and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them that left 10 people injured.
Police also arrested five Jamaat-Shibir men from the spot.
