
Professor Khaleda Ekram, the newly appointed first woman vice- chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), formally took over charge on Saturday.
Outgoing BUET vice-chancellor Prof Nazrul Islam handed over the charge to Prof Khaleda Ekram at a simple ceremony at the VC office.
President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the university, appointed Prof Khaleda Ekram, a teacher of the Architecture Department of BUET, as its first woman vice-chancellor on September 11 for a four-year term.
Earlier, Bangladesh got its first female public university vice-chancellor with the appointment of Prof Farzana Islam, a teacher of Anthropology Department, at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on March 2.
