Prof Khaleda Ekram of the Department of Architecture of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been appointed as its first female vice-chancellor.
President and Chancellor of BUET Abdul Hamid appointed Khaleda Ekram as BUET VC for the next four years.
Education Ministry issued an order regarding the appointment, on Thursday evening.
Prof Khaleda will replace existing BUET VC Prof Nazrul Islam as his term has expired.
BUET VC's post fell vacant as the previous vice-chancellor completed his tenure on August 30.
Contacted, BUET Teachers’ Association President Prof Dr Zainul Abedin said they will give their reaction about the appointment of the new VC after a meeting on Saturday.
Earlier, Bangladesh got its first female public university vice-chancellor through the appointment of Prof Farzana Islam, a teacher of Anthropology Department, at Jahangirnagar University on March 2.
