The bullet-ridden bodies of a couple were recovered by police from a house at Banani DOHS area in the capital on Monday night.

They were identified as businessman Abdur Rab and his wife Rokhsana Parveen.

Police and family members said Abdur Rab shot himself dead after killing his wife with a gun.

The bodies of both husband and wife were recovered from their own residence at Road No. 5 of Banani DOHS on Monday night.

Police said their daughter Hanifa, a Class IX English medium student, went outside the residence in the afternoon for playing. Returning the residence, she found bodies lying on a bed. First, the family learned about the killing through the daughter and then police.

Cantonment police said Abdur Rab's body was lying on a sofa which carried bullet injuries on the head, while Rokhsana Parveen's body was lying on the bed. Police surrounded the residence when this report was being prepared to post online late Monday night.

Abdur Rab and his wife Rokhsana Parveen lived at the 4th floor of the six-storeyed building at House No. 60/A, Road No. 5, Banani DOHS. They left three sons and a daughter. A son lives with grand-mother at Gulshan.

Neighbours heard sounds of firing from the residence at about 7.30pm.

Dhaka City Police joint commissioner (Crimes and Operations) Mir Rezaul Karim visited the spot. Besides, RAB and police personnel visited the place of occurence.

Mir Rezaul Karim told reporters that none of the children of Abdur Rab and Rokhsana Parveen was present at the house during the incident. There was a maid at the house. Bullets of a pistol were seized from the flat. Besides, some evidence were being collected from the flat.

Nafif Ahmed Nayeem, son of the couple, said the murder might have taken place due to frustration of his father in business. There was also a confrontation between my father and mother over selling a land.

They learnt from the maid that Abdur Rab shot at him after murdering his wife.
