A Speedy Trial Tribunal (STT) on Sunday sentenced ATM Kholequzzaman Kushal, youngest son of prominent comedian ATM Shamsuzzaman, to life term imprisonment for killing his elder brother ATM Kamruzzaman Kabir.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of Speedy Trial Tribunal No-1 pronounced the verdict in presence of lone accused Kushal. After hearing the judgement the accused son of the film actor, standing on the dock was seen nonchalant.
The court also fined Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
According to the case statements, on March 13, 2012, Kabir was stabbed to death by his younger brother Kushal following a family feud at their residence in the capital's Sutrapur area.
In this connection victim Kabir's father ATM Shamsuzzaman filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station accusing his youngest son Kholequzzaman Kushol on that day. After investigation SI Monirul Islam of Sutrapur PS submitted the charge sheet on June 25, 2012. A total of 14 prosecution witnesses out of 24, including Shamsuzzaman himself, gave depositions before the court. Md Abu Abdulah Bhuiyan, Special public prosecutor of the tribunal prosecuted the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Ahsan Tarque defended the convict.
