Two months of salary and overtime bills of ready-made garment workers of five garment factories including those belonging to Toba Group will be paid at 10am on Wednesday.
It was stated at a press conference organised by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Sunday afternoon in the capital.
BGMEA acting president SM Mannan said the workers' salaries of the month of July would be paid on Sunday (August 10). The bonus would also be paid soon.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and State Minister for Labour and Manpower Mujibul Huq Chunnu were present.
Garment workers of Toba Group have been on hunger strike at a factory at the sixth floor of Hossain Market in Badda in the capital since the day before the Eid day demanding three months of outstanding salaries and bonus. On the 7th day of hunger strike on Sunday, 97 workers fell sick. Of them, 14 were admitted to a hospital.
There are three factories on three floors of Hossain Market. These are Toba Textiles, Tayeb Design and Mita Design. Two other factories--Bookshan and Toba Fashions--are situated at the nearby Fuji Bhaban.
Earlier on Sunday morning, workers of Toba Group at a press conference announced to gherao the BGMEA Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.
Besides, they said there would be demonstrations and processions in all ready-made garment industrial areas at 4pm on Monday if the outstanding salary and Eid bonus are not paid.
The workers also threatened that their peaceful movement would turn violent if their demands are not fulfilled as early as possible.
Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed assured on Sunday that workers' problems would be resolved in a day or two.
However, workers said they did not want any assurance. Rather, they wanted the payment of their due salaries and bonuses.
