The police on Sunday picked up Jannatul Ferdous Nila, a female Ward Councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation, for interrogation in connection with the seven-murder case.
SM Monjur Kader, Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Sadar police station, confirmed to the Daily Observer about the detention.
Nila is alleged to be the mistress of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case. Nur Hossain, also an NCC Councilor, has been absconding since the day of abduction of the seven persons. He is said to have five wives, some captives and extra-marital relations with other women.
Jannatul Ferdous Nila was detained from Hajiganj area after she gave deposition before the high- powered investigation committee on Sunday afternoon, said the OC. She was returning from the Narayanganj Circuit House after attending a public hearing on the seven-murder incident, the OC added.
Nila was later handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police for interrogation, reports our Narayanganj correspondent. She was, however, released after three hours. A probe committee headed by Md Shahjahan Ali Mollah, Additional Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, on Sunday recorded the statement of Nila along with 16 other people on the crime. The high-powered body was formed in line with a High Court on May 5.
On April 27, seven people -- Nazrul Islam, his four associates and Chandan Sarker and his driver -- were kidnapped separately, but around the same time from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. Six bodies were found in the Shitalakkhya river three days later and another the next day.
