Shaheed day and International Mother Language Day was observed in the district on Friday.
SATKHIRA:  With the placement of floral wreaths at the martyrs' mausoleum of Satkhira Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park Shaheed day program began at 12.01midnight on Friday. Moving in queues praying for the departed souls of freedom fighters, officials of district administration, police, leaders of district Awami League, BNP, Jatiyo Party, Muktijoddha Sangsad and social, cultural and professional organizations including Satkhira Press Club placed floral wreaths at the martyrs' mausoleum. Satkhira Sadar MP Mir Mostaq Ahmed Rabi, DC Nazmul Ahsan, Police Super Chowdhury Manzurul Karim, Zilla Parishad administrator Munsur Ahmed, Sadar Upazila Chairman Nazrul Islam, district BNP Vice President and city mayor Alhaj M.A Jalil and freedom fighter Abu Nasim Moyna were present. Earlier, on the occasion of 21st of February, a book fair was inaugurated in the evening.
Besides, on the occasion of Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day various programs were observed throughout the day. The programs included hoisting the national flag at half mast at sunrise, holding of prayer for the salvation of souls of the martyrs after Juma prayer, special prayers at temple and church, discussion meeting, cultural function and mobile film shows.
MUNSHIGANJ: On the occasion of International Mother Language Day the people of all walks of life in Munshiganj placed floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar at 12.01 midnight Friday. The MP of Munshiganj-3 Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das and DC Saiful Islam Badal placed wreaths first. Later, district police super Habibur Rahman, District Council, District Freedom Fighters Council, District Awami League, Munshiganj Press Club, Zella Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Munshiganj Feature Reporters Unit and various other government and private social and cultural organizations paid honour.
BRAHMANBARIA: Mohan Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day has been observed with due honour in Brahmanbaria. With the initiative of district administration a day-long program was observed. A team led by DC Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain placed floral wreath at the central Shaheed Minar at Brahmanbaria Government College premises at midnight first. Later, Police Super Mohammad Muniruzzaman, government college, Awami League, BNP, Press Club and various other political and social organizations placed wreaths. In the afternoon week-long book fair was opened at the Shaheed Birendranath Dutta Bhasha Square. There was a discussion meeting and a cultural function at that time.
KURIGRAM: Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day were observed with special security measures in Kurigram. The day began with the placement of floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar by DC ABM Azad at 12.01 midnight. Besides, wreaths were placed by former MP of Kurigram-2 Jafar Ali, Police Super Sanjai Kumar Kundu, Sadar Upazila UNO Mustasfizar Rahman, Civil Surgeon office, different political and social organizations and people of all walks of life. They observed one minute's silence paying respect to the martyrs and held prayer for the salvation of souls of the martyrs.
NOAKHALI: On the occasion of International Mother Language Day a children's art competition was held under the auspices of international service organization Apex Club. About 200 students of Play Group to Standard six took part in the competition. Drawings of Bangladesh's national flower, national flag, homestead, rural sight, logo of Apex Bangladesh and national theme were worth mentioning.
President of Apex Club of Noakhali Apexian Saifullah Kamrul, immediate past president Apexian Monabbar Hossain Selim, life member Apexian Mahmudur Rashid Hasan, Apexian Abu Sayed, Apexian Advocate Iqbal Hossain Kazal, Apexian Professor Salehuddin and Apexian Mazharul Islam Didar were present.
