Poet and journalist Fazal Shahabuddin passed away yesterday morning at the age of 78, reports bdnews24.com.
Shahabuddin, the founding editor of the once popular weekly Bichitra, died at his home in Modhya Bashaboo.
A namaj-e-janaza was held in front of the National Press Club after the Asr prayers, and another at the Bangla Academy at 5pm. The poet will be laid to rest at the Banani graveyard.
Fazal Shahabuddin became popular in the 1960s as a poet. His first book was published in 1965 and the last in 2013.
He worked as the editor of weekly Shachitra Shandhani and for Dainik Bangla.
His contributions to Bengali literature got him the Bangla Academy Literature Award in 1973 and a Ekushey Padak in 1988.
