BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will soon begin tour of some major district towns to cheer-up frustrated grassroots leaders and activists.
The decision was taken at the party's first Standing Committee meeting at Gulshan office yesterday since the last parliamentary elections boycotted by BNP demanding non-party caretaker government to oversee the polls.
The crucial party meeting attended by Standing Committee members discussed key issues relating to organizational matters.
The party chairperson discussed the current political situation of the country and the direction of the party's next course of action. The meeting discussed means to compel the ruling party to hold fresh national elections under a neutral government.
The meeting discussed a time frame for exerting pressure on the government to hold an election within a year.
Taking opinions from the participating leaders the chairperson gave a nod to hold rallies in major towns of the country.
It was understood that the rallies will rejuvenate the grassroots-level leaders and activists across the country.
The meeting also discussed holding the party's national council within a short time. The national council could not be held so far due to the party's involvement in a continuous anti-government movement last year.
They also identified reasons of the failure of the anti-government movement to block holding of the January 5 national polls.
In the meeting, they also reviewed the activities aimed at achieving their political goal in the future. The top leaders also agreed to reshuffle party organs, including the Dhaka City committee.
The party took few other decisions regarding the party's position in the upcoming upazila polls to be held in the country.
Dr Osman Faruque, adviser to the Chairperson told The Daily Observer, "It is the most important meeting of the party since a number of issues remain pending for discussion."
Earlier, the party was unable to hold the Standing Committee meeting for a long period of time as a number of committee members and party leaders were in jail, he remarked. The previous Standing Committee meeting was held on November 7, 2013.
