Shanto Kairy : Thousands of cricket fans with banners, festoons and placards protested the unjust cricket proposal of three undeclared boss of world cricket yesterday at Shahbag in front of The National Museum crafting a human chain organized by ‘Cricketpremi Bangladesh’. They were demanding to oppose the destructive proposal of ‘Big 3’ that was previously supported by the board of directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The two-tier Test system, if introduced, may threaten the continued participation of bottom-tier teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in Tests. If the next ICC meeting to be held on January 29 and 30 approved the draft proposal then Bangladesh would have no chance to play any Test match till 2019. This is really shocking news for the millions of cricket lovers in Bangladesh that Bangladesh will no longer be a member of the elite club of world cricket. An online social activist group named ‘Cricketpremi Bangladesh’ or the ‘The Cricket Lovers of Bangladesh’ called for a human chain at 4pm Saturday which became a mass gathering of protesters just after 4pm.
The protestors placed a four-point demand to the BCB authority. The demands are, BCB must oppose the proposal of the ‘Big 3’, BCB must oppose the proposal in the meeting of ICC, ‘no to’ politics in cricket and the demands should be raised to the Prime Minister.
Protestors were holding placards and banners written with ‘Say No To All Unfair Demands’ ‘Save Bangladesh Cricket’, ‘No classification for test playing countries’, ‘Cricket in our blood. Let us live’, ‘This is cricket, Not business.’, ‘BCCI, Take money, leave cricket’, ‘Save Bangladesh cricket, give life to lively fans’, ‘Cricket is a game, not business’, ‘we want cricket, not money’, ‘Cricket is Business to you, oxygen to us’ etc. These writings were also used as slogans which resounding the whole area.
Babu Ahmed The coordinator of Cricketpremi Bangladesh said, ’BCB should stand against the Big 3. BCB decided to oppose the proposal of Big 3. If they do that we are with BCB.’
The protestors are going to protest against the proposal of Big 3 in the stadium in upcoming series against Sri Lanka. And the further activities will be declared after the meeting of ICC on 28-29 January.
