Missing imam’s body found in Manikganj pond

Police have recovered the body of a missing imam from a pond in Ghior upazila of Manikganj, two days after his disappearance.

The body was found around 8 am on Tuesday (September 16) in a pond in Pukhuria area under Baliakhora union. The matter was confirmed by Ghior Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Kohinur Mia.

The dead was Rafiqul Islam, 38, son of Abdur Rahim Mia from Binanai village under Chauhali upazila of Sirajganj. He was the imam of local Pukhuria Mosque.

Earlier, the victim’s wife, Mosammat Mariam, filed a general diary (GD) with Ghior Police Station after her husband went missing.

According to police, Rafiqul used to bathe regularly in the pond where his body was found. On Tuesday morning, locals informed the police after spotting the body. Law enforcers then recovered it from the scene.

Inspector Kohinur Mia said the body was recovered at around 8 am based on information from locals. After preparing an inquest report, the body was sent to the morgue for autopsy. Legal procedures are underway.
