Parked bus catches fire in Ashulia

A parked passenger bus in Ashulia suddenly caught fire, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. 

A unit of the Fire Service managed to bring the fire under control after 20 minutes of efforts.

The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday (May 19) on the Nabiganj-Chandra Highway, in the lane heading toward Chandra, opposite the new DEPZ (Export Processing Zone). 

The fire broke out in a Labbayek Paribahan bus that was parked on the roadside.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver and his assistant had left the bus parked to buy mosquito coils. Upon their return, they saw the bus engulfed in flames. 

A unit from the DEPZ Fire Station quickly arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.

DEPZ Fire Service Senior Station Officer Pranab Chowdhury said, “We received the fire report at 11:58 PM. Our team reached the spot and managed to extinguish the fire after about 20 minutes of effort.”

He estimated that property worth around Tk 3 lakh was damaged in the incident.

He added that the initial assumption is that the fire may have started from a cigarette thrown by a passerby. However, the exact cause will be confirmed after a detailed investigation, he added.
