Three children's body were found in a canal six hours after they went missing while playing at Eidgaon upazila in Cox's Bazar district.

The deceased children were identified as Riya Moni, 10, daughter of Yusuf Nabi from East Baharchhara area under Jalalabad union in the upazila; Mariam Begum, 9, daughter of Manzur Alam; and Taslima Akhter (9), daughter of Zafar Alam. All of them were neighbors.

According to locals, the three children along with a few others went out to play from their homes around 1:30 PM on Monday. However, by evening, when they did not return home, their families began searching for them in various places.

At one point, at 7 PM, while searching, family members spotted one child's dead body floating in the local canal. Later, they found the bodies of other two children in the water as well.

The relatives then rescued the bodies of all three children.

Eidgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Moshiur Rahman confirmed the incident on Monday night.

The police's initial assumption is that they might have drowned while playing in the water, although further investigation is being carried out to uncover the exact cause of their deaths, added the OC.
