Police on Thursday recovered the body of a man from a canal in Patuakhali's Bauphal upazila.
The dead Abdullah Robi, 58, a resident of Italy village under Sirajganj Sadar Upazila, was a truck helper.
According to police, on Thursday morning, locals spotted the body floating in a canal and informed police. In the afternoon, the police recovered the body and sent it to Patuakhali Hospital for autopsy. The body was identified by the NID card of the man.
Based on initial investigations, police said it seemed that Abdullah Robi was heading towards the Bogha Ferry Ghat on Wednesday night, loading a truck with goods. On the way, their truck got stuck with an electric wire in Ayla Bazar area. While trying to remove the wire, Abdullah Robi was electrocuted and died. The truck driver then dumped Abdullah Robi's body in a canal near the Kumbhkhali culvert and fled.
Bauphal Police Station OC Kamal Hossain said, "An investigation is underway to uncover the real mystery. A drive is underway to arrest the truck driver."
