As the day time temperature started falling and it rained in different parts of the country, the ministries of Education and Primary and Mass Education have ordered all educational institutions to re-open from Sunday.

Earlier the educational institutions re-opened on April 28 and declared closure partially from April 29, amid the wave of criticism from different corners and following the directives of the High Court.

After the announcement, the government kept all educational institutions of around 25 districts facing severe heatwave including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Rangpur closed due to the prolonged heatwave.

The order, issued by Ministry of Education on Saturday, asked to continue academic activities in all secondary schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutes of the country, as the temperature has decreased in two days.

However, no assembly will be held in any institution before the beginning of classes.

Besides, students are not allowed to participate in any educational activities outside the class.

On the other hand, classes will be held according to the new schedule as the declared holiday is over on Sunday in all primary schools across the country.

The educational institutions were kept closed considering the intense heat due to heatwave across the country.

According to the conditions of the Ministry, daily assemblies at these institutions will remain suspended until the weather becomes tolerable. All activities exposing students to direct sunlight be limited.

The directive also stated that classes will be held on Saturdays to compensate for the educational gap resulting from the closure until further notice.

On May 3, the Ministry issued notice declaring all educational institutions in 25 districts, including Dhaka, closed for Saturday due to the ongoing heatwave sweeping over the country.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued a country-wide heatwave alert message on Friday for the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, according to the previous announcement of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry, all primary schools will start classes from Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education notification, all government primary schools, schools under the Children Welfare Trust, and Learning Centres of the Informal Education Bureau remained closed until Thursday.

Bypassing the criticism from all corners due to the decision of re-opening educational institutions amid heatwave, the two ministries announced re-opening of all educational institutions from April 21 after a vacation of around one and half months for Eid-ul Fitr and Pahela Baishakh.

But, the two ministries changed the decision later and extended the holiday till April 27 and kept those opened from April 28.
Due to the severe heatwave, a huge number of students and teachers fell sick on April 28 and at least three school teachers have died of heatstroke on the day in the country.

As a result, the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Education Ministry was compelled to announce closure of secondary and higher secondary schools, colleges and madrasas for Monday in five districts including Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Jashore and Chuadanga facing severe heatwave.

But, the Primary and Mass Education Ministry kept all primary and pre-primary level schools and madrasas open on Monday and a huge number of students felt sick too.

Amid this situation, a High Court bench comprising Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Khizir Hayat Lizu directed the Ministry of Education on a suo motu (voluntary) move to keep the educational institutions closed during the heatwave.

Responding to the HC move, the government finally decided to close the educational institutions.
