Three of a family among 11 killed in road accidents

At least eleven people, including three of a family, were killed in separate road accidents in Noakhali, Munshiganj, Madaripur, and Gazipur on Saturday.

Our Noakhali Correspondent reports that four passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed after being hit by a truck at Chandraganj Purba Bazar on the Noakhali-Lakshmipur regional highway in Begumganj Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were Rahmat Ullah Bhuiyan, 65, army man Fazlul Karim, 50, and Alauddin, 45, of Lakshipur district. The identity of the other person could not be known.

Police said the accident occurred when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the auto-rickshaw in that area The two vehicles fell into a roadside canal. The four passengers died on the spot.

Our Munshiganj correspondent writes that three members of a family were killed and two others injured after being hit by a truck in Baushia area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Gazaria upazila of the district at around 2:30am on Saturday.

Gazaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rajib Khan said the deceased were Alamgir, 55, Zahir, 30, and Rahela Begum, 50, of Chandpur district.

Our Gazipur Correspondet adds two construction workers were killed and five others injured when a truck collided with a pick-up van in Sreepur upazila of the district at 4:30am on Saturday. The dead were Rasel Mia, 25, and Abu Sufian, 25, of Sunamganj district.

Sreepur Fire Service Station Officer Belal Ahmed said the accident occurred when a dump truck hit a Mawna-bound pick-up van carrying construction workers, leaving Rasel dead on the spot and six others injured.

 The injured were taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Sufian dead. Sreepur Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Kuddus said police seized the truck and legal steps will be taken in this regard.

Our Madaripur Correspondent reports two passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed after a speedy truck rammed their vehicle on Tekerhat-Srenadi regional road near Kathalia Bridge of Rajoir upazila of the district on Saturday.

According to the police and locals, the accident took place at around 7:00am in the area when the truck collided head-on coming from the opposite direction, leaving the passengers of the auto-rickshaw Hosen Ali Munshi and Dhalu Hawlader dead on the spot.
