Thrust on holding UZ polls in credible manner

GAIBANDHA, Apr 28: Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana on Sunday underscored the need for holding the sixth Upazila Parishad (UZ) election across the country in free, fair and credible manner.
"As the 12th Parliamentary Election was held on January 7 successfully at the initiative of Election Commission (EC), the commission wants to hold the upazila election in free, fair, and acceptable ways. So, the upazila election will be held in a festive mood through active participation of voters and others concerned", she added.
The EC commissioner made this remark while exchanging views with journalists at a press briefing in the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) in the twon as the chief guest at noon.
She further said, necessary measures have already been taken by the commission, along with local administrations, so that voters can go to the polling centres and cast their votes without any fear. She also sought whole-hearted cooperation from journalists, asking them for doing objective news regarding the elections.
Later on, the EC commissioner attended the meeting of the officials concerned who are involved in conducting upazila elections in Rangpur and Gaibandha districts.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Zakir Hossain presided over the meeting.
Earlier, she participated in view-exchange meeting with the candidates who are in the race of election as the chief guest,  urging them to conduct campaigns following the electoral code of conduct.
DCs of Gaibandha and Rangpur, superintendents of police of Rangpur and Gaibandha attended the meeting.
