A child drowned while bathing in a pond at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi district on Friday morning.
The incident took place around 11.30am at Mushidpur Kheya Hat area under the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Siam Hossain Sajib, 10, son of Sujan Ali, a resident of Kahyerhat area under the upazila.
According to the victim's family members, Sajib along with his two friends Sajal Hossain, 8, and Lamin Ahmed, 7, and other children went down to the pond to take bath in the morning. At one stage, three of them drowned.
Noticing the incident, other children informed locals and sought help from them.
Locals rescued the trio and took them to Bagha Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Sajib dead.
Bagha Police Station's OC Aminul Islam confirmed the death matter.
