UP chairman remanded over assaulting police at police station


A court in Bogura has placed union parishad (UP) chairman Nuruzzaman on a six-day remand for questioning over assaulting police personnel at a police station and taking away an arrested accused.

At the same time, eight more accused have been remanded for three days in this regard.
Bogura Senior Judicial Magistrate Begum Sanchita Islam handed down the order on Tuesday afternoon.

Nuruzzaman is a chairman of Majhira Union Parishad under Shajahanpur upazila in the district. He was also the general secretary of the upazila unit Jubo League, however, he was suspended after the incident.

The other accused are Saddam Hossain Robin, Ramzan Ali, Saidur Rahman Khokon, Borhan Uddin, Serajul Islam, Aminul Islam, Md Mitul, and Wabuzzaman Ratul.

Earlier, Nuruzzaman along with his associates entered Shajahanpur Police Station and took away arrested accused Mitul, general secretary of the union unit Jubo League, from there. At that time they assaulted police personnel, leaving five of them injured.

Separate cases were filed with the police station over assaulting police and under the Arms Act in this regard.
