A
fire that broke out at a United Commercial Bank (UCB) branch in
Chattogram’s Nandankanan has been brought under control.
Six fire engines battled the blaze for three hours before finally managing to contain it at around 9:30pm on Saturday (March 16), said Mohammad Ali, senior station officer of Chandanpura Fire Service.
The cause of the fire and extent of damage could not be known yet, he said.
Fire service had to work carefully to prevent the blaze from spreading to the bank’s vault, said Mohammad Ali.
UCB Bank’s Jubilee Road branch Manager (Operations) Md Moinuddin Chowdhury said the bank was shut when the fire was reported. He said he had rushed to the site after hearing about the blaze.
The extent of damage will be known later, he added.
